We cannot believe it’s been two years since Simple Self Store first opened its doors. What started with 48 self storage units has grown into a busy local storage facility, now with 150 units across 12 different sizes. Over the last two years, we’ve welcomed 363 customers, from people going through a house move to local businesses needing a bit more room to grow.
So, with our second birthday here, we thought we’d take a look back at what we’ve achieved so far, and what’s next.
Growing from the Ground Up
When we first opened, we had 48 self storage units. Today, we have 150.
That’s 102 new units added since opening, including 11 new units over the last year alone. We’ve continued to add different options as we’ve seen more people looking for flexible storage near Motherwell. With 12 different unit sizes, customers can choose the space that suits them, whether they’re looking for somewhere to store a few boxes or somewhere with a lot more room.
And we’re not finished yet; we have new outdoor storage containers coming soon that are weatherproof and carpeted.
363 Customers and Counting
Over the past two years, 363 customers have used Simple Self Store. We currently have 126 customers using our storage, each for their own reason. Some have needed personal self storage while moving home, renovating or simply making some extra room. Others have needed somewhere to keep clothes, belongings or things that don’t quite fit at home anymore. We also have our business customers. We’ve provided business storage and commercial storage for a range of local trades and businesses, including plumbers, painters and engineers, as well as customers using units for file storage.
It’s been great seeing the different ways in which people have used their storage units, and how much of a difference having some extra space can make.
Celebrating our Day Ones
Since we opened our doors 2 years ago, 5 customers have been with us since the very beginning. That means they’ve trusted Simple Self Store with their belongings for the entire two years, which is something we’re really proud of.
We’ve also had seven customers come back to us again, and six customers have upgraded to a bigger unit as their storage needs have changed.
It’s a nice reminder that storage isn’t always just a short term solution. Sometimes, having reliable and affordable storage becomes something you genuinely rely on.
Self Storage that Works Around You
One of the things we’ve always wanted Simple Self Store to offer is flexible storage that works for different people and different situations.
Whether you’re looking for moving home storage, personal storage or business storage units, everyone’s requirements are slightly different. A house move might mean needing somewhere to keep furniture and boxes for a few weeks. A growing business might need somewhere for stock, tools or equipment or an online seller might just need somewhere other than the spare bedroom to keep their growing pile of parcels.
That’s why we offer a range of indoor storage units and outdoor storage containers.
Looking to the Future
Two years in, and we’re already looking forward to the next chapter.
We’re planning a new Simple Self Store site and getting ready to welcome new outdoor storage units as we continue to grow.
The ambition for year three is simple: More sites, more space and more customers.
We want to take what we’ve built here in Motherwell and continue providing straightforward, reliable self storage solutions to even more people and businesses.
Beyond the Numbers
Looking at the numbers is great. Growing from 48 to 150 units and welcoming over 350 customers is something we’re incredibly proud of.
But for us, our biggest achievement is creating a great, reliable service for our customers. People often need storage at a time when life is changing, whether that be due to moving house, growing a business, renovating or downsizing. We want Simple Self Store to make that part a little easier.
And the fact that five customers have been with us since day one, seven have returned to use us again, and six have moved into bigger units tells us we’re doing something right.

We’ve welcomed 363 customers, added 102 units, expanded our range of storage options and built a service we’re genuinely proud of.
And now we’re getting ready to do it all again, with more outdoor storage, a new site and plenty more to come.
